Have I mentioned I’m super into research? I thought so. When Tommy and I were designing our nursery, we decided to go as budget friendly and thrifty as possible, while still making it feel special and comforting for Nez. Ultimately the furniture ended up being a combination of purchased, repurposed, gifted, and borrowed pieces with a very white and light vibe. (Check out my post on our nursery for a refresher). So when Reel reached out to me about their innovative concept to help new parents get all the gear they need, I was super intrigued.
You might’ve seen Reel before on Goop or Who What Wear as a tool to help you save for designer pieces for yourself (mama wants a pair of Golden Goose sneakers), and now they are branching into the baby world as part of their Before You Know It campaign.
Essentially how it works is you pick items you’d like to save up to buy and determine how much you want to put into your Reel account per day or week, ultimately working towards your purchase without maxing out your credit cards or being irresponsible about it. As someone who frankly sucks at keeping track of their finances, I am very into this idea. It’s essentially a less annoying version of your parents trying to help you be fiscally (yeah, I said fiscally) responsible.
Let’s say, for example, that I want to buy a new dresser from Babyletto (the brand we bought ours from). You can select what date you want to buy it by and how much you’re interested in putting aside per day/week. Then simply connect your bank account (it’s totally secure, FYI), and get notifications when you’re getting close to reaching the purchase price. You can always change your mind and transfer that money towards a different purchase (say a new Clare Vivier bag…I kid, I kid!) or cash out any time, so it’s basically a no-fail situation.
Designing and furnishing your little one’s space and prepping for their arrival is expensive, so I love the idea of using Reel to do it in a truly responsible way. You can’t spend beyond your means because you’re dictating what your means are.
Beyond helping you furnish your baby’s nursery, they also have everything you could need, from car seats to high chairs, strollers to pack n’ plays (and way beyond). First up on my list is setting money aside for a Pack n’ Play that we can take with us everywhere this summer.
