I’ve always been a little bit crazy when it comes to skincare and makeup. The majority of the products that end up in my beauty cabinet start as referrals from influencers or celebrities (because their skin is somehow perfect all the time), then I research the product, then I add it to my virtual shopping cart and close the window because I don’t want to spend the money if the product is going to work, then repeat x5 before I bite the bullet. I dream of being that person that finds those few products that really work and become staples. After 30 years, I am excited to say that I think I’m getting closer to that goal! So in the spirit of ‘sharing is caring’, I’m writing up my spring must-haves. Let me know your makeup & skincare saviors so I can add them to my list!
As an additional note, I should mention that I’m a minimalist when it comes to a daily beauty regime and makeup routine. This has always been the case, but since having a baby I’m x100 lazier so it all has to be quick, easy, and fool-proof. Read on for the full list of skincare, body care, and makeup!
Bioderma Sensibio Foaming Gel Cleanser: I have tried every cleanser under the sun and this is a current fave. I hate those annoying cleansers that don’t actually take any of your makeup off, which is why I love that this goes from a gel to a foamy consistency. It passes the ‘white wash cloth’ test and doesn’t irritate my sensitive skin.
Glossier Solution: After I wash my face at night, I use Glossier Solution. This is my second time purchasing it and in my opinion, it functions as a more affordable version of the holy grail product, Biologique Recherche Lotion P50, a product that I have also purchased. Like I said, I don’t like the feeling of any leftover makeup or residue on my skin when I go to sleep and this help with that smooth finish.
Dr. Hauschka Rose Day Cream: Warning, this sh*t is for real. I bought it when I needed a thicker moisturizer to help out with dry skin post-baby and boy, does it work. Because it’s thick, a little goes a long way. It smells amazing and feels like a dream. One of the few moisturizers I’ve tried that actually does what it’s supposed to. I use it every morning and let it sink in for a few minutes before applying makeup.
Acure Brightening Night Cream: Love this one as my night moisturizer. Just thick enough to do the job but not too thick that my pillow ends up smeared with gunk. A newer addition to my rotation.
Supergoop! Unseen Sunscreen SPF 40: This is a newer product in my arsenal. I want to be one of those women that uses sunscreen every day and looks 30 when I’m 50, but up until now, I hadn’t found a product that a) went on without making my skin feel cakey or gross and b) doesn’t clog my pores. Enter Unseen Sunscreen. It also almost functions as a makeup primer, so double whammy, lazy girls!
Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask: Remember when I mentioned that most of my skincare purchases start with influencer suggestions? I’d say this mask is right up there at the top of the list of Instagram-approved products. I finally gave in and am obsessed. Seriously. While most masks either moisturize, clear things up, or reduce redness, this does all of that and more. I will never not own this again. Oh, also it’s got super cute packaging so, #insta.
Benefit Cosmetics Hoola Bronzer: I’ve used this bronzer for 10 years and love it year after year. It’s the perfect matte color to make me look like I have any semblance of cheekbones or like I don’t live in Portland and have seen the sun.
Glossier Lash Slick Mascara : I’ve tried a ton of Glossier products, and this is a new favorite. It stays put, isn’t over the top like I’m trying to have fake lashes, and makes me look awake. I have a newborn. You do the math.
Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation: I used this foundation back in college and just circled back around to it because I’d been dreaming about it. Yes, it’s expensive but it goes on smooth, doesn’t look like I’m putting inches of makeup on, and stays put. So it’s worth it in my book. I wear shade 4.25.
Beauty Blender: While I’ve owned a Beauty Blender for years, I just figured out how to actually use one like, last week. Apparently you’re supposed to squeeze it under running water a few times until it gets all bloated like my stomach after I eat a burrito, then put your foundation or whatever you’re going to smooth out onto it and apply. And that’s how you get that movie star glow (plus the expensive facials, spray tans, and a 100% organic macro blah blah whatever diet).
Glossier Boy Brow: I got hooked on Boy Brow when it first came out and literally start to sweat if I travel without it. If you haven’t noticed, I’ve got a whole lotta eyebrows so I like to keep them as groomed as possible and Boy Brow is the bomb.
Organic Stretch Mark & Scar Treatment : If the product name wasn’t obvious enough, I got this oil while I was pregnant to help prevent stretch marks. That being said, I got hooked on the smell and the fact that it’s natural, so I’m still using it every night after the shower. I also massage a little on my c-section scar to help break up scar tissue.
